Irionan
While not as well known as the Cicerone, the Irionan species is also gifted with incredible skills in navigation, both through space and through the more personal spaces within each individual. They see the universe as merely a macrocosm of the incredible potential within each individual.
Culture
Shared customary codes and values
Irionans believe the journey, whether spiritual or physical, is the essence of existence. Stagnation is viewed as a kind of death, and progress is celebrated in all forms. They work to harmonize the universe we live in with the internal mysteries of the soul. This is reflected in their tools, rituals, and societal structures which often have dual purposes, both practical and symbolic.
Irionans are the best navigators in the universe. They continually seek alternative routes and new places to explore. For Irionans, The Universe is full of novelty and adventure.
Average technological level
Highly advanced astrogators, their space ships are capable of traveling at high speeds through difficult environments most would usually avoid. While they do carry basic armament, these curious individuals attempt to avoid conflict whenever possible. When forced into conflict, they have been known to attack psychologically rather than physically if the opportunity presents itself.
Tools and technology are vital to their culture, and while their devices always have practical value, they often have symbolic and spiritual connotations as well.
Common Etiquette rules
When meeting an Irionan, it is common to share details of your current journey, whether that is a physical journey or a spiritual one. Refusing to share details of a journey is seen as either extremely rude or a sign that one is not ON a journey, and therefore has become stagnant.
Coming of Age Rites
Young Irionans are guided by their elders into adulthood using devices of self-discovery. These young people are encouraged to face their fears and then find ways to use them as guides toward their future goals and exploration paths.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Given that stagnation and death are considered the same, once an individual has died, it is customary to encourage the physical manifestation of that individual to join the spiritual, which they consider to continue beyond death. Funerary rites traditionally involved cremation, but may also involve sending the body to follow the spirit, whether into the sea or the heart of a sun.
Common Taboos
Ignoring one's inner fears and turmoils. They see ignoring internal stress as refusing growth, in the same way as they'd see someone attempting to take a journey, but refusing to take the first step.
Stagnation - if one becomes stagnant, one dies. If one is stagnant and alive, this is seen as the utmost rejection of the gifts of the Universe.
