The Universe
The Universe is huge. So huge that everything known and unknown fits within it.
Well, maybe there's something beyond it, but none of the known species has travelled beyond it, unless you get into the realm of religion.
As species develop space travel and improve their technology more and more, even in such a huge space they begin to bump into each other, creating a multitude of problems. It is the job of the Intergalactic Banking Institute, for example, to encourage peaceful trade between neighbors.
Galactic Alliance Enforcers work to maintain peace, something that has been determined to be almost impossible in a universe this big with such diverse cultures who often find themselves either fighting over resources, smashing into each other's territory, or otherwise getting on one another's nerves.
The Universe, it turns out, is truly not big enough to contain some conflicting species. For example, Antareans and Eridanians seem particularly unwilling to share even such a vast space and spend entirely too much time trying to exterminate each other. Treslians and Sreteerans are another pair that struggle to coexist.
Many young species falsely assume that if they can see it, they own it. When faced with the starry heavens, they see only room for expansion rather than someone else's property.
Learning to survive and participate in the intergalactic community is a growth stage for any planet as it moves into the wider universe of possibilities.

Galactic Chart
This map is a plot of the stars visible with the naked eye from Earth. This map is plotted in galactic coordinates - the plane of the Milky Way galaxy passes across the middle of this chart with the zero point of galactic latitude and longitude pointing directly at the galactic centre. The 88 constellations have also been marked onto this map although constellations have no real significance - all constellations consist of stars that lie at very different distances.
Stars that may appear very distant on this plot can actually be very close together.
