The Spaceport
Security Operations Manual
1. Introduction
Welcome to The Spaceport’s Security Team.
As a member of our elite security force, you play a vital role in keeping guests safe, protecting our immersive experience, and ensuring that everyone follows facility guidelines. Our clients often take on the personas of adventurers, explorers, and even creatures from beyond Earth—so prepare for a wide variety of interactions.
2. Uniform and Appearance
- Uniform Components (provided by Spaceport wardrobe department)
- Shirt: Red, collared, short- or long-sleeved (depending on season).
- Pants: Black (tactical or dress style, depending on assigned duty).
- Shoes: Black, closed-toe, with non-slip soles for safety.
- Badge: Always worn on the left side of the shirt, clearly visible.
- Radio: Worn attached to a utility belt. If available, in-ear translators may also be provided.
- Taser: Worn attached to utility belt. For use as a last resort only.
- Care and Maintenance
- Keep uniforms neat, wrinkle-free, and in good repair at all times.
- Replace damaged uniforms immediately to maintain professional standards.
Note: We are aware red shirts have a certain reputation among science fiction fans—wear yours with pride and humor, but be prepared to reassure guests that you’re well-equipped to handle anything. And despite the connotations: know that you are definitely NOT expendable.
3. Maintaining Character
One of The Spaceport’s biggest draws is its fully immersive atmosphere.
- Stay in Character
Treat clients as if they truly are who they claim to be—whether space pirates, intergalactic royalty, or fantastical creatures from distant worlds.
- Handle Difficult Situations with Poise
Diffuse conflict or confusion without dropping the ‘story.’ Even when managing unruly or upset visitors, remain calm and employ in-universe language and protocols.
Example: If a guest claiming to be from the planet Antares becomes argumentative, you might remind them, “As per Galactic Treaty regulations, all Antareans must remain in authorized areas, Commander.”
4. Badge System Overview
All visitors and staff members must wear badges at all times. These serve multiple purposes:
- Access Control: Badges grant entry into specific areas.
- Payment Method: Badges track each individual’s in-port currency balance.
- Identity Classification: Badges visually indicate the wearer’s knowledge status and, in rare cases, their origin.
4.1 Red Level Badges
- Who Wears Them?
- Most guests (new arrivals, day visitors)
- Employees in their initial phase of employment
- What Does It Mean?
- The wearer is unaware of the existence of real extraterrestrials.
- They should only be exposed to the standard in-park backstory and theming.
4.2 Green Level Badges
- How to Obtain
- Through a formal “Green Stripe Badge Ceremony,” which is initiated if and when a person encounters evidence of an actual alien presence or is required to know.
- What Does It Mean?
- The wearer is now aware that aliens truly exist.
- Additional training or counseling may be provided to cope with this knowledge.
4.3 Gold Corner Badges
- Who Wears Them?
- Individuals who are, in fact, genuine extraterrestrials.
- Key Privileges
- Unrestricted access to certain “behind the scenes” areas (at management discretion).
- May require special accommodations or considerations.
Important: Always treat any Gold Corner Badge wearer with heightened discretion. Remember, our world is alien to them. Maintain the immersion for Red Badge holders, and follow company protocol for interactions.
5. Handling Difficult Guests
- De-escalation
- Use open body language and calm, polite tones.
- Offer to assist in problem resolution within the “universe” storyline (e.g., “The Spaceport Ambassador’s Office might be best equipped to handle this issue”).
- Respect the Fiction
- If a guest insists on a scenario involving time travel or alien conspiracies, address them as if it is entirely plausible.
- Never break character in front of Red Badge holders.
- Call for Backup
- If a situation becomes unsafe or you are unsure how to proceed, contact a supervising officer or shift leader.
6. Alien Encounters and Green Stripe Ceremonies
Security guards should be prepared for occasional genuine extraterrestrial visitors. While rare, these individuals are an integral part of our facility’s backstory and reality.
- Identify: If a known alien is visiting the premises, they will have a Gold Corner on their badge. If you believe a Red Badge holder is actually an alien, seek support from one of the staff members with a Gold Corner on their badge.
- Protocol: If a Red Badge employee or guest has a confirmed encounter, you may need to coordinate the “Green Stripe Badge Ceremony.”
- Counseling: Direct newly promoted Green Badge holders to the appropriate staff psychologist or orientation lead for follow-up.
7. Safety Protocols and Emergency Procedures
- Medical Emergencies
- Direct anyone in need of immediate care to our onsite Medical facility.
- Evacuation
- In the event of an emergency, follow posted procedures and assist guests in safely exiting the premises, while preserving the immersive environment as much as possible.
- Communication Systems
- Maintain contact with fellow security personnel via radio or designated communication devices.
- All urgent announcements will be made in standard Earth-based language (English), regardless of thematic preferences.
8. Final Notes and Further Assistance
Your role as a Spaceport Security Guard combines everyday safety measures with a flair for performance. Remember, the immersive experience thrives on professionalism and consistency. Should you have any questions about procedure, protocol, or your own place in this ever-expanding universe, don’t hesitate to consult your immediate supervisor.
We look forward to having you on board. Thank you for helping us keep The Spaceport a safe, exciting, and truly otherworldly destination for all who enter.
